First edition of this scarce cancelled original Water-Works Bond, 1 of 1000 $ 500.00 bonds issued originally, when in 1905 Los Angeles voters approved a $ 1.5 million bond for the purchase of lands and water and the inauguration of work on an aqueduct. The second bond passed later in 1907 with a budget of $ 24.5 million furthered construction. The construction oversaw by William Mulholland, encompassed the construction of a 230-mile aqueduct diverting water from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles.
