Hardback. Dustjacket. Both in Fine condition. Not inscribed. 240 Pages. First Edition. Illustrated. To most people across the world the name The Black Watch evokes the swirl of kilts and the skirl of bagpipes, but the ceremonial display of the Pipes and Drums is but one manifestation of the proud heritage of this famous Highland… Regiment. For The Black Watch since its formation in the 18th century, has been committed in so many engagements in so many parts of the world that its history is indissolubly intertwined with the history of Britain. The War of American Independence, Napoleon's Egyptian campaign, Quatre Bras and Waterloo, the Crimea, the Indian Mutiny and World Wars 1 and 11 - in all these, and more, The Black Watch has played a distinguished part. In Eric and Andro Linklater's history of the Regiment from its formation to its recent duties in Northern Ireland, the spirit resourcefulness, fierce courage and regimental pride of the Black Watch can be seen throughout. Based on a multitude of contemporary records, diaries and memoirs and fully illustrated, this history was begun by Eric Linklater, himself a private in the Regiment in World War 1, who had written several chapters and done much research by the time of his death. It has been ably completed by his younger son Andro.
