Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Wer heute "Stolz weht die Flagge Schwarz, Weiß, Rot" hört, denkt wohl an die kaiserliche Marine im ersten Weltkrieg, wohl auch an den Nachsatz zum "Engellandlied" von Herms Niel und Hermann Löns aus dem zweiten Weltkrieg: "Dir wolln wir treu ergeben sein", denkt an den unsel…igen Hitlerkrieg und seine schlimmen Folgen für unser Vaterland. Der harmlos-freundliche Ursprung des "Flaggenliedes" jedoch dürfte vergessen sein. Es sind über 100 Jahre vergangen, seit das Flaggenlied in dem alten gemütlichen "American-Theater" in der Dresdener Straße 55 zum erstenmal gesungen wurde. Heute wird sich niemand mehr des kleinen, nur 700 Personen fassenden Volkstheaters erinnern, in dem geraucht werden durfte und dessen Besuch für Damen häufig als nicht empfehlenswert angesehen wurde. Hier schleuderte der "urkomische Bendix" seine trockenen Humorpointen ins buntgemischte Publikum, und manche Berliner Redensart ist hier entstanden, wie zum Beispiel: "Es ist ja alles da, es ist nicht wie bei armen Leuten", oder "Sachte, es klemmt sich", und "Nu aber raus" ! In diesem vom Direktor August Reiff seit 1873 geleiteten Theater war Richard Thiele Hauskomponist und 1. Kapellmeister, der das von Robert Linderer verfaßte Singspiel "Unsere Marine" vertonte. Im Oktober 1883 wurde es uraufgeführt, und Martin Bendix in der Rolle des Robinson Crusoe sang, von einem Chor begleitet, das Lied. Aus dem kleinen Theater heraus fand die patriotische Weise Widerhall in den breiten Volksmassen, durch die Bearbeitung als Marsch in ihrer Popularität noch gesteigert. Besonders nach 1888, dem Regierungsantritt Kaiser Wilhelms IL, der eine forcierte Marinepolitik betrieb und die Flotte gewaltig vergrößerte, fand das Lied weiteste Verbreitung, wie unser vorliegendes Notenblatt aus dem Jahre 1896 bestätigt. Es wurde früher auch immer gern erzählt, daß in der Juninacht des Jahres 1896, als das deutsche Kanonenboot "Iltis" im Taifun an den Klippen des Schantung-Vorgebirges zerschellte, die tapfere Besatzung im Angesicht des Unterganges das Flaggenlied angestimmt haben soll. - Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550 Farb. Eichstätt und Stuttgart, Krüll, 1876f.; zit. n. DBA I 768, 87). Fortan als Schriftsetzer arbeitend, wandte sich Linderer 1861 der Literatur zu. Sein eigentliches Feld war das Humoristisch-Satirische, infolge dessen er sich namentlich im Couplet eine ganz besondere Routine aneignete" (ebd.). Etwas unfrisch.
