Peter Scholl-Latour was born in 1924 in Bochum, has earned a master's degree at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and his doctorate at the Sorbonne as well as another master's in Arab and Islamic studies at the Lebanese University of Beirut. Starting in 1950 he began working as a journalist. From 1960 to 1963 he was an African correspondent for the ARD, from 1963 to 1969 he headed the Paris studio of the ARD, from 1969 to 1971 he was program director of WDR television, and from 1975 to 1983 he was head of the Paris ZDF Studios. Since 1983 Scholl-Latour has been a member of the Board of Gruner + Jahr AG and since 1984 a board member of the UFA Film and TV GmbH, Hamburg.
