Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Lady Augusta Gregory (15 March 1852 - 22 May 1932), was an Irish dramatist and folklorist. With William Butler Yeats and Edward Martyn, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, and wrote numerous short works for both companies. Lady Gregory produced a number of books of retellings of stories taken from Irish mythology. Born into a class that was identified closely with British rule, her interest in the language and the legends of the local area was fostered early in her life by her nanny. After the death of her husband, her interest in the language and folklore was re-ignited. Lady Gregory is mainly remembered for her work behind the Irish Literary Revival. Many of the diaries and journals she kept for most of her adult life have been published, providing a rich source of information on Irish literary history during the first three decades of the 20th century. This edition of Lady Gregory's A Book of Saints and Wonders is specially formatted with a Table of Contents and pictures. This book deals with the favorite saints of Ireland, and the legends and miracles that have come to be associated with their names. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Lady Augusta Gregorys collection and translation of Irish folk legends brings, as Yeats observed, Irelands gift of imagination to the world.Following on from the bestselling Irish Myths and Legends: Gods and Fighting Men, this second volume, originally titled Cuchulain of Muirthemne, tells of the brave exploits of Irelands answer to Achilles, the fearless Cuchulain and the Red Branch of Ulster, as well as the overpowering love of his wife Emer.Forming part of the bedrock of Gaelic legend, and translated faithfully from the idiom of Irish oral storytellers, this new volume is essential reading for anyone with an interest in Gaelic culture. Beautifully designed new hardback edition of Lady Gregorys definitive collection of Irish myths and legends, focusing on the bold exploits of Cuchulain and the Red Branch of Ulster. Volume 2 of New Island's bestselling Irish Myths and Legends series. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
