Front spine edge has some slight damage, not seen on the inner hinges. Covers have uneven discoloration. One leaf has a small creased tear to the outer edge. Private owner's name written on front endpaper. ; Copy #37 of 950. Printed by the Marchbanks Press under the supervision of Frederic W. Goudy. In a damaged slipcase which is missing part of the upper piece.

Novella concerning a world-weary New Yorker in the aftermath of the Great War with both romantic and socialistic inclinations, as well as the affective cognomen of 'Jimmy Fairfax'. One of 950 numbered copies (the entire edition; this is number 270) printed by The Marchbanks Press under the supervision of Frederic W. Goudy (who also designed the typeface). Bound in 3/4 white vellum over pink boards, gilt-stamped spine, covers ruled gilt, yellow endpapers, all edges untrimmed. Still a nice, tight copy internally.b/w Decorative title Page & Headpieces.

Name at flyleaf, paper faded where in contact with the vellum, two very small holes at the front gutter, else a very good copy in a moderately worn decorated paper-covered board slipcase, with a cover label.

Typical wear to yapped edges with chips and a few long tears (affecting a bit of text), stain on the cover and first page with small stains at the bottom margin of several pages, external tape repair on the cover, good only. Features: The first appearance of "When New York Vanished" by Henry Kuttner, "The Phantom Teleview" by Bob Olsen, and the first appearances of "Station Death" by Oscar J. Friend, and "Guinea Pig, Ph.D." by Alfred Bester. Stan Lee once praised illustrator Schomburg stating, "Alex Schomburg was totally unique. I remember hearing Timely Comics publisher Martin Goodman tell me time and again how great a cover illustrator Alex was, and how he wished we had more like him. He was the only artist I knew able to combine strong, dramatic layouts, and exciting superhero action with a simplistic, almost cartoony style of execution.".

The American premier was in New York City on February 21, 1922. There are also reviews of the Will Rogers comedy "One Glorious Day", and the Lupu Pick film "Shattered".
