The Jackdaw was published in Bradford during 1904-1905 with the intention of poking fun at the local establishment, municipal spending, and the eccentricities of Victorian/Edwardian Bradford society - the very era that J B Priestley would satirise in his novels and plays, notably, An Inspector Calls. Surprising to this cataloguer is the quality of the writing and the numerous highly accomplished illustrations, cartoons, advertisements, social commentary, half-tone photographs and illustrated handbills mocking contemporary news stories.
