Ernst Kromayer (1862-1933) Dermatologe, "studierte in Straßburg, Würzburg und Bonn Medizin und erhielt 1885 die Approbation als Arzt. 1890 habilitierte er sich in Halle für Dermatologie und hielt seit WS 1890/91 Vorlesungen mit klinischen Demonstrationen aus seiner Privatpraxis. Er übernahm die Universitätshautpoliklinik und baute sie rasch aus. 1901 wurde ihm der Professortitel verliehen. Da ihm die vom preuß. Kultusministerium gemachten Zusagen seines Fachgebietes nicht eingehalten wurden, trat er unter Protest von seinem Lehramt zurück und ließ sich als "Spezialist" in Berlin nieder. Hier eröffnete er eine gut besuchte Hautklinik und war als Facharzt auch in anderen Krankenhäusern tätig. K. beschäftigte sich umfassend mit den Problemen der Dermatologie und Venerologie. Er führte das Lenigallol und das Eugallol (beides Acetate des Pyrogallols) in die Therapie der Hautkrankheiten ein und beschäftigte sich mit der Morphologie der Hauterscheinungen, speziell der Hautnaevi. K. konstruierte eine nach ihm benannte Quarzlampe zur Therapie der Hauterkrankungen insbesondere der Schuppenflechte. Die Forschungen führte er unter dem Blickwinkel der Praxis durch."
