Democracia y Tiranías en el Caribe es una historia documental, viva, de la realidad Latinoamericana, particularmente referida a los pueblos del Caribe. El autor, entonces corresponsal de la revista Time, conoció personalmente…a muchos de los personajes del drama que relata. Por entonces el Departamento de Estado inspirado en la nueva política de Franklin D. Roosevelt. Se proponía permitir el ejercicio de algunas libertades democráticas, entonces muy de moda como consignas de la segunda guerra mundial. De una de estas libertades, particularmente la de crítica, quizo hacer uso William Krehm cuando escribió este libro. Pero la realidad descripta era demasiado elocuente y constituía una acusación, tanto para las satrapías tiránicas que deuncia, como para la «Gran Democracia» que las sostenía con su ayuda económica y política. Así, a poco de editado, Democracia y Tiranías en el Caribe se tornó un acta acusatoria contra la «política del buen vecino» y su autor perdió además de la corresponsalía de Time, su carta de ciudadanía estadounidense. De los libros escritos con el propósito de revelar las verdaderas condiciones en que se encuentran las libertades públicas, en nuestro continente ninguno ha cumplido tanto su misión, como éste. Tanto por la franqueza y valentía del autor, como por su estilo ágil matizado de anécdotas sagaces y amenas. De sus páginas surgen los rasgos biográficos de conocidas figuras políticas y el perfil de los Somoza, Trujillo, etc., al igual que de sus servidores y vasallos. América Latina aún carece de una verdadera historia. No existen libros completos que revelen la verdadera trama de intereses que se oponen al conocimiento de nuestro continente. Pero existen sin embargo, innumerables libros que recogen, aunque fragmentariamente, la verdad de nuestros males y permiten reconstruir su historia. Su verdadera historia. Editorial Parnaso se propone la edición de estos libros, rescatándolos del silencio o el olvido.
