Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Politics - Political Systems - General and Comparisons, grade: 1,0, University of Mannheim, language: English, abstract: This enquiry deals with the shortcomings of rational choice theory in explainin…g voter turnout as a rational - i.e. efficient in terms of costs and benefits - act. It is argued that intrinsic benefits, i.e. benefits that accrue to the citizen independent of an election outcome, should provide a proper explanatory potential if one can account for different implications of these benefits for different voters. The rationale should hold for benefits in general, though. Underlying coherent priorities in the form of political values (materialism vs. postmaterialism) are used to differentiate voters and to probe for differing impacts of determinants of voter turnout depending on different underlying values. The thesis is that the impacts of these determinants differ for different values. The tested determinants, taken from the literature, are appreciation of democracy, social norms, party identification and material resources. Hypotheses about impacts are formulated on the basis of the theory of political values for every determinant and tested by means of logistic regression employing data from German election studies. Whereas the impacts of social norms and material resources vary by underlying values, the results for appreciation of democracy and party identification remain inclusive.

Hardback. Condition: New. This interdisciplinary book provides a comprehensive overview of the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and politics. Pascal D. Koenig analyzes what politicizes AI, describes the distinct facets of this relationship, and how they interconnect.Incorporating a wide range of perspectives on…AI and politics, Koenig explores technology design, how AI can engineer social relations, as well as its appearance in societal narratives, public opinion, and geopolitics. He reveals its manifold impacts on society, such as through automation and decision support tools in the public and private sector or the growing use of virtual assistants, and how these effects vary in visibility. The book also discusses the extent to which AI has become politicized, encompassing how it has been targeted by governance, data concerns, and the influence of private actors. Ultimately, Koenig concludes that the kinds of politics of AI with the greatest impact on society are often subtle and far removed from day-to-day politics.Understanding the Politics of Artificial Intelligence is a crucial resource for scholars and students of innovation policy, disruptive technologies and AI, international politics, and regulation and governance. It is also a beneficial read for practitioners and policymakers working on technology policy and governance who are interested in the intersection of AI and politics.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.
