Condition: Sehr gut. 116 S. Einband leicht berieben. - L'½uvre de Pyke Koch est singulière à plus d'un égard. Premier fait remarquable, Koch ne peint en 55 ans qu'un peu plus de quatre-vingts tableaux. Un tiers de son ½uvre voit le jour pendant les dix premières années de sa vie d'artiste, sa période la plus productive. Après, son rythme de production se ralentit, tandis que s'allonge le temps qui lui est nécessaire pour achever une toile. Ces dix dernières années, Koch n'a terminé que trois tableaux. Si certaines toiles du peintre participèrent à des expositions collectives - ce fut récemment le cas à l'exposition Les Réalismes 1919-1939, présentée à Paris et à Berlin -, les expositions individuelles demeurèrent très rares. En outre, ces expositions ne présentaient qu'un nombre limité de tableaux; la première, qui eut lieu à Utrecht en 1940, n'en comptait même qu'un seul. Il y eut trois expositions rétrospectives, la première en 1955 à Amsterdam, qui réunissait quinze toiles, la seconde en 1966 à Arnhem, qui en présentait trente-et-une, la troisième en 1972 à Amsterdam, qui en groupait vingt-quatre. Celle d'aujourd'hui en compte trente-trois, soit plus d'un tiers de l'½uvre du peintre, ce qui en fait la plus importante jamais consacrée à Pyke Koch. Le petit nombre de ses ½uvres et la rareté de ses expositions ne s'expliquent pas seulement par des facteurs quantitatifs, par une technique si précise qu'elle exige un long labeur. Ce qui joue bien plus en l'occurrence, c'est la conception qu'a le peintre de la création et de la présentation d'une ½uvre d'art.
