Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. A collection of five different titles from the Observer's Pocket Book series. All uniformly bound in cloth of varying colour, with titles front and spine. All illustrated. 16mos. All volumes in generally very good condition, some are slightly pushed at spine ends, most have a little dust marking to the upper text block edge, and some have a previous owner's name or inscription internally, else are neat, clean bright and tight. All in glossy, illustrated dust wrappers, some lightly bumped on extreme edges, some price clipped and almost all a little shelf worn and sunned, faded on the spine. A mixture of editions and printings but all in the style of dust wrappers introduced in 1970 - glossy and laminated with a distinctive square, framed illustration - and prevalent until around 1980. Observer's Pocket books is a series of pocket-sized books published by Frederick Warne and covering topics such as hobbies, art, nature and history. The first in the series - British Birds - was published in 1937. The 99th title, the Observer's Book of Observer's Books was released in 1999 (by Peregrine Books) in a matching format. The series was rounded to 100 with the publication of Wayside and Woodland in 2003. Many of the titles have been revised, reprinted, updated and released in different dust wrappers over the years - it is estimated that there are some 800 variations - and have become collectible: the earlier numbers and rarer issues can be hard to find We have many books from the Observer Pocket Book series in stock and can offer generous discounts to those ordering more than one at a time. THe results were so moving and impressive that Wolfe had 2,000 copies printed at his own expense, while all the profits from Doubleday's edition went directly to the men ; "We cannot state too emphatically that this books is presented not as a literary effort but as a series of social documents."--foreword ; "If a foreigner should ask me what Americans were like in 1946, I would hand him this book. Naturally it is not the whole story. It is only the story of a fairly small group of young men among those most hurt in body and mind by the accidents of war. But somehow, putting down the war experiences that affected them most, these young men have uncovered a much larger segment of the reality of our time than they themselves seem to have been aware of."--John Dos Passos ; details of each serviceman and his unit included ; authors include: Joe V.
