Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Many development activities in the Third World countries involve the so-called donors. These are governments and other agencies that volunteer funds, material resources, and skills. It is such agencies that are technically described as trustees. That is, they conduct development activities on behalf of, or for the citizens of the Third World countries. This book addresses the trustee question by examining select projects funded by the United Nations Development Programme in Kenya. The book thus documents the myths and realities of development trusteeship in Kenya. The book argues that intentional development requires the input, or participation, of those people whose lives stand to be improved by the development activities or projects under investigation. That is, if development has to be meaningful and sustainable at the local level, it has to be informed by the desires and/or aspirations of the local communities. Development trustees are supposed to act as agencies whose activities are based on, and in direct conformity to what the members of the local population deem necessary for the improvements of their own lives. 116 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In this study we look at differentiation and articulation in tertiary education systems in East Africa. With regard to differentiation, we have examined such issues as institutional missions and mandates, curricular emphasis and teaching approach, students levels of qualification, admissions criteria, range of fields of study offered, minimum requirements for teaching staff, local versus national orientation, institutional size, as well as governance, regulation, funding and issues of quality control. With regard to articulation, we have explored issues as transferability of credits, recognition and structure of qualifications, staff mobility and collaborations or partnerships. In all this, our unit of analysis is the higher education system, though in a few instances we make reference to specific institutions with regard to vertical differentiation, which, by definition, is predicated on institutions rather than systems. 76 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This is the result of a study carried out on the activities of the UN in Kenya since independence in 1963. The study s main objective was to establish the role played by the UN in Kenya s development history. The study focused on both the ideas and practices, traceable to the UN, that have in one way or the other informed Kenya s development performance. The study looked at five thematic areas: socio-economic opportunities, agriculture, social security, environmental sustainability and governance. In all of these, it emerged that the UN has played a significant role in Kenya s development performance, and that in the last four decades, partnership between Kenya and the UN has borne fruit in both ideas and actual development. The contributions of the UN in Kenya's Development has mainly been registered in Health, Agriculture, the environment, governance, as well as security and peace building. Some of these developments have been regional in character. 108 pp. Englisch.
