Publisher's original illustrated wrappers. Nine issues of 'Friends' a magazine published for Chevrolet which was distributed to customers by dealership sponsors. It contained…general articles of interest to both men and women. The nine issues are dated January 1961, February 1962, March 1962, August 1962, May 1963, November 1963, May 1964, February 1965 and April 1965. They feature illustrations by Edward Gorey in all but two issues. From the collection of the art director of 'Friends' was the (later) Corvo expert Donald Weeks, who befriended Gorey and was early in recognising his singular talents.~Loosely inserted are 2 pages of notes in his hand (seemingly ideas.) The others contain articles about Ray Bradbury and Dr Seuss. Edward Gorey (1925 Ð 2000) was a writer and artist best known for his unsettling illustration work. Ray Bradbury (1920 Ð 2012) author and screenwriter has been credited with bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream. Theodor Seuss 'Ted' Geisel (1904 Ð 1991) was a political cartoonist, screenwriter, filmmaker, animator and above all a children's author creating the best selling Dr. Seuss books. Wrappers detached from the April 1965 issue, otherwise very good. Wrappers of one copy detached, otherwise very good.

Typed two page incomplete letter to the editor addressed from 27 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3XX which discusses reading in bed with reference to Eugene FieldÕs Creative Years by Charles H. Dennis and others such as Henry Irving and Oscar Wilde and about 7 sheets of paper with rough notes plus quotes on a wide variety of subjects in Donald WeeksÕ hand loosely inserted. The 1963 volume stamped ÔCampbell Ewald Co. Library May 22 1964Õ and with the companyÕs library label pastedown on rear endpaper. Illustration by Edward Gorey on p. 12 of the January issue of a boy with a dog chasing a butterfly. The May and November 63 isues also have each a Gorey illustartion.Also includes about 3pp. rough notes in WeeksÕ hand, 8pp. typed with pastedown extracts entitled ÔSeptemberÕ and another entirely typed copy of the same and several duplicate pages loosely inserted. 'Friends' a magazine published for Chevrolet was distributed to customers by dealership sponsors. It contained general articles of interest to both men and women.ÊThe art director from 1952 to 1966 was the (later) Corvo expert Donald Weeks (1921-2003), who befriended Gorey and was early in recognising his singular talents. Born in Detroit, Weeks moved to London in 1966 where he spent the rest of his life. Edward Gorey (1925-2000) was a writer and artist best known for his unsettling illustration work. The advertising and marketing company Campbell Ewald was founded in 1911 by Frank Campbell and Henry Ewald. Chevrolet became their first important client. By 1922, they were undertaking all the advertising work for General Motors, so becoming one of the top five advertising agencies in the USA. Fine. Fine.
