Yellow illustrated paper covers with moderate shelf wear, creasing, and small chips along edges and at corners. Roughly 2 inch square of paper missing from upper corner of rear cover where the mailing label was torn away, with matching loss to the final Buyer's Guide leaf; rear cover split from the text block for 3 inches from head of spine. Bound-in advertising reply cards present. Pages toned. Otherwise unmarked. First issue of the magazine's thirtieth volume, with an editorial on the 290 numbers since April 1937. Margarita Walker Dulac's "Ivan Albright, Mystic-Realist" (pp. 32-37) draws on her acquaintance with the Chicago painter since the 1933 Grant Park Art Fair, with reproductions courtesy the Art Institute of Chicago: Into the World Came a Soul Called Ida, That Which I Should Have Done I Did Not Do, Poor Room, The Lineman, Among Those Left, The Rosicrucian, and the 1933 self-portrait. John Jellico's "The Drawings of Franklin Booth" (pp. 42-46) recalls his teacher at the Phoenix Art Institute with large reproductions of the pen drawings.
