A lavishly illustrated survey of Mary Pickford's early work with the Biograph Company, 1909-1912. The spine head and tail edges are lightly bumped and the otherwise fine boards and spine are now off-white with a hint of yellowing. The contents appear clean and securely bound. The predominantly white dj, which is NOT price clipped, has a vertical and horizontal tear at the tail of the spine, there are few small edge tears, and light rubbing or shelf wear in the front joint and on the rear cover. Essentially a "films-of-Mary Pickford" chronicle, but limited to only those films in which she "appeared as a comedienne, either as the principal actress, or in a supporting role" for the Biograph Company from 1909 through 1912; the illustrations consist primarily of reproductions of "Biograph Bulletins" (the company's trade ads) and frame blow-ups from the films themselves. "During the almost three years that Mary Pickford was with the Biograph Company, she averaged at least one film a week. Most of her roles were dramatic, and quite often she played the part of an Indian maiden. [D.W.] Griffith, however, recognized her ability as a comedienne and whenever he had a suitable story cast her in that manner.
