First original edition. Early economic planning by Leonid Kantorovich (1912-1986) who entered the ranks of the greatest scientists of the 20th century due his fundamental input into mathematics and economics. In 1942 Kantorovich had already written the first version of this monograph. He was so far ahead of his time-and thought so far outside contemporary notions of political economy-that the book was not published until 17 years later. Only then did his pioneering ideas begin to be recognized and accepted by other economists. Subsequently, this book was translated into many languages. Ultimately, he was recognized in the West with the Nobel Prize. The book itself is a summary of the author's long-term research into methods of linear programming which is further developed here and applied to economic planning. The core of this book, and its main value, consists in its use of specific examples in modeling practical solutions to economic problems. The only copy is located in Princeton University.
