  • Published by [ENGLISH: - - - "Kamke. A Nordic Painter", in Swedish. Monograph, printed in just 100 copies (this is no. 77), about Swedish portraitist Ivar Kamke (1882-1936). The inclusion of the book in the series Gesta Gothorum is motivated by the opinion that Kamke understood how to paint 'Gothic' (aryan) race types.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Rare limited edition; this copy is number 45 of 50 printed. Signed by Kamke beneath self-portrait at front of book. This copy is in very good condition: the text is clear, bright, and completely unmarked; the copper print plates are in equally excellent condition. Binding tight. However, there are signs of water damage on top corners of last three pages; also age and spotting on edges; top front fep has white-out covering some hand writing. Marble paper-covered boards show age and foxing, especially fep and bep. However, the essence of the book--the inside text and inside illustrations--is excellent. We have a five star rating because of our fulfillment success and because our descriptions are accurate. We guarantee No Nasty Surprises. Signed by Author(s).…

The German language edition, edition of 100, unnumbered copy from the private collection of Carl-Theodor Thäberg at Nordisk rotogravyr. - - - Half red morocco, spine with diagonal ruling in gilt, top dge gilt. With Thäberg's bookplate. Stockholm, Gesta gothorum / Diplomatarium Nobilium / Nordisk rotogravyr, 1931. 4to. 23,5 x 17,5 cm. [viii] + 8 + [ii] pp. + 1 portrait + 40 photogravure plates numbered 9-50 + pp. 51-54 (list of publications from Nobiles academicis to date: "Diplomatarium foederationis interuniversitatis nobilium academicorum"). Swedish, French and English editions were also published of this monograph devoted to Swedish-German painter and portraitist Ivar Kamke, active both in Sweden and abroad. Ewert Wrangel is content to praise his "Swedishness" in the introduction, but the anonymous author of the preface takes the enthusiasm further. Kamke has "considered the racial characteristics of the depicted people more than most other portrait painters". He is said to have studied Schultzes' "Kunst und Rasse" (Munich 1928) in particular and qualifies for inclusion in the Gesta Gothorum monograph series by having rendered Gothic (aryan) racial types with "deep and heartfelt understanding".…
