Se excluyeron los pacientes que se fugaron o dieron de alta en contra del consejo médico y los pacientes remitidos a un centro superior. Las madres embarazadas/lactantes, todos los pacientes pediátricos y cualquier paciente que muera después de la operación antes de ser dado de alta también fueron excluidos de este estudio. Datos como el nombre, la edad, el sexo, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento en curso se registraron en el expediente del paciente en un formulario de registro de casos (CRF) previamente preparado. Los detalles pertinentes de la droga prescrita fueron analizados por los indicadores de prescripción de la OMS.

Bei dieser Studie handelte es sich um eine prospektive Querschnittsstudie vom Beobachtungstyp, die alle postoperativen Patienten bis zur Entlassung in der Abteilung für Allgemeinchirurgie umfasste. Insgesamt wurden dreihundert Patienten beiderlei Geschlechts und erwachsener Altersgruppen, die die Einschlusskriterien erfüllten, in diese Studie eingeschlossen. Patienten, die gegen ärztlichen Rat flüchteten/entlassen wurden, und Patienten, die an ein höheres Zentrum überwiesen wurden, wurden ausgeschlossen. Schwangere/laktierende Mütter, alle pädiatrischen Patienten und alle Patienten, die vor ihrer Entlassung postoperativ sterben, wurden ebenfalls aus dieser Studie ausgeschlossen. Daten wie Name, Alter, Geschlecht, Diagnose, laufende Behandlung wurden aus der Fallakte des Patienten in einem zuvor erstellten Case Record Form (CRF) erfasst.
