Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Hardcover first edition, published by Harper, 1944. Julien Proskauer was a magician, friend of Houndini, and author of the classic cocktail guide 'What'll You Have?'. This is collection of puzzles using a variety of objects; paper, matches, coins, wire, string, and words. There are also chapters on optical illusions, and 'Mental Puzzles, which would probably qualify as magic tricks. 176 pages, 5 X 8-3/8 , illustrations by Robert Schoellhorn and Nancy Dryfoos. No dust jacket. Bright red cloth covered boards, with the author name and title imprinted on the spine in black, all lettering on the spine is intact and not rubbed or worn. . Boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or creased. Only one of the puzzles has writing, on page 67, where there is some pencil marks, no further writing besides that. This is not a library discard. There are squares of age tanning on pages 96-97, 140-141, and 160-161, looks as though there was a piece of paper inserted between those pages which left the tanning spots. Similar spots to the back paste-down page and back flyleaf as well. Attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
