Aus dem Deckensystem geht wesentlich die Gestalt der Umschliessungswände hervor. Einzelne Formen der Ueberdeckung gestatten eine gleichmässige Wandumschliessung, andere dagegen bedingen eine Gliederung derselben in stützende Pfeiler und raumschliessende Zwischenwände. Es ist daher angemessen, bei einer systematischen Betrachtung der Raumarchitektur die Räume zunächst in zwei Hauptgattungen, nämlich in solche mit vertikal lastender Decke und in solche mit gewölbter Decke einzutheilen. Vor Besprechung der einzelnen Raumformen ist es angezeigt, einzelne allgemeine Bemerkungen über den Charakter der Raumarchitektur vorauszuschicken. Im Raume betrachtet man für gewöhnlich die Architekturformen in geringerer Distanz als am Aeussern der Gebäude. Es sollen also die einzelnen Formen im Innern leichter und zierlicher gebildet werden, als diess in der äussern Architektur der Fall ist. In letzterer sollen die Formen auf grosse Distanz wirken und dementsprechend auch für eine horizontale Betrachtung berechnet sein. Im Innern dagegen werden die meisten Formen mehr schräg von unten gesehen und sollen einer solchen Betrachtung entsprechend gebildet werden. Die einzelnen Profile sind weiter auszuladen und die Verzierungen in eben dem Masse auf die Unterflächen als auf die senkrechten Flächen zu verlegen. Am Aeussern sind die Bauformen einer hellen und von oben wirkenden Beleuchtung ausgesetzt. Im Innern dagegen wirkt ein schwächeres Licht, das oft durch mehrere Oeffnungen einfällt und also unbestimmt ist. Viele Partien des Raumes werden nur von Refle?licht, das von unten her zurückstrahlt, erhellt. First editions of these two works reproducing and detailing the famed 1888 Cyclorama panorama by the noted architect Buhlmann, and artist Alexander von Wagner designed and intended to feed public appetite for visual spectacle in the 19th Century prior to the emergence of film and cinema. With exquisite attention to detail this massive piece emulated the performance Cycloramas touring the Americas and Europe, such as the "Battle of Gettysburg," "Missionary Ridge," and offered the viewers an immersive experience. This triumph capped the victorious 312 A.D. campaign by Emperor Constantine in which he had defeated the competing Emperor Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, where Constantine had his vision of the Cross, and converted to Christianity, and adopted the banner standard bearing the initial letters in the name of Christ. Of additional interest is that even though the original was eventually destroyed, von Wagner's & Buhlmann's work inspired Yadegar Asisi to create his massive 27 meter by 107 meter 2014 panorama opened in Dresden at the Dresden Panorama Museum where Rome's cityscape can be viewed from a tower below a dome. Joseph Bühlmann war ein schweizerisch-deutscher Maler, Architekt und Hochschullehrer. Geboren am 28. April 1844 in Grosswangen, Luzern, Schweiz, und gestorben am 29. Oktober 1921 in München kam er 1863 als Schweizer Staatsbürger nach München, um an der Kunstakademie zu studieren. Später wurde er Professor für Baukunst an der Tec…hnischen Hochschule München und erwarb die bayrische Staatsbürgerschaft. Bühlmann war ein produktiver Autor und Architekt, der an verschiedenen Projekten und Wettbewerben beteiligt war. Er erhielt 1882 die Goldmedaille auf der Bayerischen Landes-Industrie-, Gewerbe- und Kunstausstellung in Nürnberg. Bühlmann hinterließ einen bleibenden Einfluss auf die Architektur und die Kunstwelt seiner Zeit. -- Die vorliegende Sammlung bietet einen guten Überblick über Bühlmanns Werk. Den Wert der Sammlung bestimmen zum einen die prächtigen, großformatigen Prachtblätter aber auch die zahlreichen Skizzen und Zeichnungen, welche Bühlmann auf seinen Italienreisen angefertigt hat. Bei diesen handelt es sich wahrscheinlich um die Vorarbeiten zu seinen späteren Veröffentlichungen über die italienische Architektur. Bühlmanns Arbeiten erinnern an die Zeichnungen von Leo von Klenze (1784-1864), der über Jahrzehnte Hofarchitekt in München war. - Derartig umfangreiche Konvolute von bedeutenden Architekten kommen sehr selten im Handel vor.
