KRONIKA MEHO ZIVOTA (dt. : Die Chronik meines Lebens) Illustrierte Mappe (Pb. 8°) mit 20 FARBIGEN ORIGINAL-LITHOGRAPHIEN.
Prague: Knihtiskárna národ. sociálního d?lnictva, 1909-1911. Quartos (29.7 × 23.3 cm). Contemporary cloth-backed boards; hand-written title; original pictorial self-wrappers; typically 12 pp. per issue. Former owner's private stamp; else very good. Complete second year of this Czech leftist satirical journal, the issues of which are full of shorter prose by Jaroslav Ha?ek and illustrations by Josef Lada, who was one of the editors. In 1911, after Lada took over the lead editorial role, the journal printed the first five shorter pieces featuring a certain "?vejk", who would become the famous protagonist of Ha?ek's later novel "Good Soldier ?vejk." Other contributors include Karel Pikart, Karel Vika, Gedeon Motyka, ?en?k Lodyha, Karel Horký, Petr Johanes, and artists F. Naske, K. Rélink, F. Tratnik, L. Kalaunek, R. Adámek. Ha?ek's articles and stories were usually the reason for the journal's problems with the censors. A number of the issues feature the printed note "New corrected edition following confiscation" (Po konfiskaci nové opravené vydání). Rare, with individual issues almost never encountered in commerce. As of June 2024, KVK, OCLC show copies at University of Chicago only.
