Glas in al zijn verschillende vormen, vanaf vensterglas tot flessen en serviesgoed. We gaan er ook vrij achteloos mee om; het is immers weinig kostba…ar materiaal! Is dat wel zo? Weet u dat duizenden jaren geleden glas zijn gewicht in zuiver goud waard was? Het was weliswaar een andere samenstelling dan het moderne glas, maar toch, het was echt glas, met alle kenmerkende eigenschappen daarvan. Zoals ook bij aardewerk, steengoed, porselein en email het geval is, behoort de bewerking van glas tot ?iets uit de fout? Want van het vuur is men afhankelijk, ook in dit industriële tijdperk waarin men niet glas overspoeld wordt. Zeker, de vervaardigingsmethoden zijn andere dan in het verleden, de materiaalkosten bedragen nog slechts een fractie van die uit vroeger tijden, het stookmateriaal is veranderd; maar het vuur bleef. Het vuur dat nodig is om zand, kalk en soda tot glas te smelten. Ook wij hebben dat vuur nodig bij ons spelen met glas ? of is het spelen met vuur? Wij behoeven het glasmengsel niet zelf samen te stellen, noch zelf het glas te fabriceren. Wij gebruiken eenvoudig het glas waarover wij reeds beschikken. Vensterglas, waaruit wij gekleurde schalen vormen, buisglas, waaruit wij kralen maken, apothekersflesjes waaruit wij mobieltjes vervaardigen, scherven waarvan wij glasreliefs en de meest fascinerende sieraden kunnen maken, sieraden, die door de kleur van de kleding in een altijd bijpassende tint veranderen.
