Tussen de documenten bevond zich het prozawerk De avonturen van Henry II Fix, een indrukwekkende autobiografie waarin Fix zich als romancier en sch…erpzinnig waarnemer van zijn turbulente tijd presenteert. Hij beschrijft de patriottenbeweging, de napoleontische bezetting, de geestdrift na 1813, de watersnood van 1825 en de Tiendaagse Veldtocht in 1831. Fix schrijft, dicht, tekent, componeert en doet visionaire voorstellen over stadsontwikkeling, volksvoorspoed, vrede en toerisme. Hij schetst zelfs de contouren van een Volkerenbond en de eerste aanzetten tot een wegenverkeerswet. Een ontroerende rode draad in zijn verhaal is de verloving met weduwe Wilhelmina Wilders, die zijn moeder nooit uit zijn hart verdrong. Daarnaast wordt zijn levenslange, tragische vete met de Zwolse dichter Rhijnvis Feith belicht, die zijn positie als buitenstaander versterkte. Het feit dat De avonturen van Henry II Fix nooit eerder is gepubliceerd, wijst op de eenzame positie van de auteur, mogelijk door invloed van de Feithen. De publicatie, met inleiding, noten en illustraties, is 163 jaar na zijn dood een daad van rechtvaardigheid.
