Jede neue Maßnahme zur Diskriminierung und Schikanierung der jüdischen Bevölkerung macht Dickinson in ihren komplexen zwischenmenschlichen Auswirkungen greifbar. Für seine Forschungen zu Hermann Reis hielt sich Dickinson 1953/54 mit seiner Familie in Marburg auf, wohin er Anfang der 1960er Jahre noch einmal zurückkehrte.
