A very nice copy. This volume comes from the Aviation collection of Prof. Chris Sterling. Sterling spent his lifetime teaching, writing, and collecting books on civil and military aviation. A survey of sixteen Irish houses built during the Georgian period, including work designed by by Adam, Chambers, Wyatt, Nash, Richard Castle and Davis Ducart. John Jay Ide (1892-1962, a descendant of John Jay), graduated from Columbia University with a Certificate of Architecture (1913), then studied at the Ecole des Beuax Arts, Paris, in 1914. He was an architect with H. T. Lindeberg in New York, then served as a technical assistant for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics at the American Embassy in Paris, 1921-1940, and again from 1949 until his retirement. Ide, was not only an architect and a collector; he was an aviation pioneer and instrumental in gathering intelligence on the Nazi's aviation program during the 1930s. His secret work collecting information about the military advancements of other European powers, including the threat of Hitler's laboratories under Hermann Goering and his Ministry of Aviation helped spur the United States to invest more time and funding in its own defense industries. Not marked as such, but from the collection of Susan Mary Jay Alsop, a cousin of the author.
