Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Mid-century classroom text in plane trigonometry, this 1950 Houghton Mifflin copy is offered together with an unusually complete bundle of United States Military Academy, West Point-issued and cadet-produced ephemera documenting active academy use in the 1950s. The volume itself contains the full instructional apparatus (clear worked examples, diagrams, tables and problems) and is solidly bound in cloth with gilt titles. The package includes a typeset Math Department supplement bearing the imprint (Math. Dept., USMA, August 1955), Army/USMA exercises, a cadet financial/account ledger (USMA AG form with entries stamped PLOGER WAYNE D K1 MAR 57), base newspaper-subscription logs and multiple sheets of personal handwritten course notes and diagrammatic problem sketches. The typed USMA supplement explicitly replaces and re-orders pages and is stamped ARMY-USMA (service format), demonstrating institutional adoption of the text for cadet instruction. Boards square, binding tight; moderate rubbing and light scuffing to cloth at spine ends and covers, gilt remains legible. Light age-toning to endpapers; printed owner stamp 'PLOGER, W. D.' on front pastedown. Occasional small marginal smudges and corner creases; no loose signatures, no institutional perforation other than owner stamp. Laid-in ephemera - Good to Fair. Army/USMA typescript supplement (Math Dept., USMA, August 1955) is folded and has small edge tears from handling but is complete and entirely legible; USMA financial/account form (dated MAR 1957) shows typical folds, handling soil and punch/staple holes; subscription logs and personal notes/diagrams are folded, creased, and in typed/pencil medium with expected wear. All inserts are sold with the book and have been photographed. Copyright page states Copyright, 1950 (Corliss & Berglund) and printing credit to The Riverside Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts. No numbered printing line is present. Given the 1950 copyright, the Riverside Press printing, and Houghton Mifflin imprint, this is a 1950 Houghton Mifflin classroom issue (likely first edition/first printing.) Wayne D. Ploger was a U.S. Military Academy graduate from the West Point class of 1961 who went on to serve a 19-year career as an Army artillery officer before transitioning into management consulting. After earning an M.S. in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, he joined Arthur Young & Company, later Ernst & Young, where he contributed to several U.S. Army Research Institute studies in the early 1980s focused on personnel systems, leadership, and organizational effectiveness. His consulting career continued for two decades, including work through his own firm, Wayne Ploger & Associates, before he later shifted into maritime work and earned a Coast Guard master's license.
