These are rare examples of lithographic covers by Herbert S. Stone and Co.These works feature a collection of essays and stories from the 'Chap-Book' by a host of noted writers, such as Neith Boyce, Katherine Bates, Edmund Gosse and John Burroughs. The 'Chap Book' was an American literary magazine published by Stone and Kimball and edited by Herbert S. Stone. The essays discuss and review a number of literary authors and works, such as Henrik Ibsen's play about a father and his disabled son called 'Little Eyolf' and Max Nordau's 'Degeneration', a two volume social criticism in which Nordau criticises degenerate art and the effects of rapid urbanization on the human body. The stories include 'In the Garden' by Neith Boyce, a story about a women who sneaks into a mysterious garden owned by monks. In the publisher's original cloths.
