"The Bampton Lectures at the University of Oxford, England, were founded by a bequest of John Bampton. They have taken place since 1780. Included is an extract from the last Will and Testament of the late Reverend John Bampton (d.1751), Canon of Salisbury, wherein the lectures series is established, and which started in 1779 with its inaugural lecture."
