In Portuguese throughout. Covers are rubbed around the edges and spine. No tears chips. Signatures are all sprung loose from the glued spine, but remain stitched together and attached with the thread. Nothing is falling out or missing. Pages free of marks or writing. Full color illustration throughout. Overall good condition. SIGNED by the author on the half-title page, where he has written, " To John S. Dunning with compliments of Johan Dalgas Frisch Oct-19-1981". (Dunning is the author of numerous bird books). This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world.
