Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is the first volume of a larger work in which the author explores the intellectual and literary world of early modern Europe. This volume contains 22 satires which show the author's reflections on the political, social and cultural themes of his age. The work of a lesser known and under appreciated contemporary of Regnier, the themes explored in this book are as resonant with readers today as they were in the 17th century. In his verse, the author explores the paradoxical aspects of human nature, the tension between social order and individual liberty, and the dangers of unbridled ambition. The author's biting wit and sharp observations provide a unique insight into early modern European society and its concerns. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
