Es handelt sich um ein, vor allem in dieser guten Erhaltung, sehr seltenes Exemplar des bekanntesten Werks des englischen Mathematikers und Astronomen Sacrobosco, der an der Pariser Universität lehrte. In seinem um 1230 verfassten Tractatus de Sphaera, einem Lehrbuch der sphärischen Astronomie, diskutiert er den Platz der Erde im Universum, ihre Kugelgestalt, die Erdmessung, die Klimazonen, die Entstehung der Finsternisse und mehr. Es wurde europaweit an den Universitäten als verbindliches Handbuch für den Astronomieunterricht bis weit ins 17. Jahrhundert verwendet.
