Both first editions with Scribner's single "Published, October, 1904" statements on each copyright page and matching 1904 date at bottom of title pages. Hardcover: H 21.75cm x L 14.75cm. Both volumes lack their dust jackets. Uniformly bound in original blue cloth; boards rubbed with some staining; scuffi…ng and some fraying at spine ends with bumped heels; slender shelf wear along bottom board edges with corners nicked; some flaking/dulling to spine's gilt stamped lettering but still easily legible. Gilt top edges; deckle fore-edges and bottom edges. Past owner's ink signature on both volumes' front pastedown with Volume I also having pencil signature of same owner on front free endpaper; some foxing and toning throughout. Each frontispiece retains its tissue guard sheet. Volume I has some tearing to surface paper at front and rear hinges along with binding shaken between front flyleaf verso and opposing half-title recto but otherwise holding; Volume II binding has some stress points but overall still reasonably firm. A good set. Please note that this set has an approximate shipping weight of 5 pounds (2.26 kg) and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
