I Zingari (Italian for gypsies), arguably the most prestigious of the wandering cricket clubs of England, was set up by Sir Spencer Ponsonby Fane, J.L Baldwin and Lord Bessborough in 1845. They proposed that the club 'should have no grounds of its own, but whose members should seek to promote the popularity of cricket far and wide' In its heyday in the 1860's, the club played matches against England representative sides and international touring teams. Over the years it has also included more than a dozen captains of England, including: F.S Jackson, D.R Jardine, Peter May and Colin Cowdrey. 152pp, olive green boards with gilt lettering to spine. Contains former owner's name (celebrated Colonel Richard Heaven (M.C) on ffep and two notes addressed to him on front pastedown, v.good with some toning commensurate with age. Signed by George Mann, former England captain, who also served as the chair of the TCCB and President of MCC, and who, as Governor of I Zingari at the time of publication, provided the foreword.
