Soft cover. Condition: Poor. Dust Jacket Condition: Not Issued. 1st Edition. pp: [62]. One of a series of books by Towne featuring the Teddy Bears. Towne was associated with 'Judge Magazine' of the late nineteenth, and early twentieth centuries. It was this magazine that held the copyright to the series. Reilly & Britton obtaine…d their permission to published this volume. This may explain the unusual, longer format, compared to other 'Teddy Bear' books. This book consists of 29 pages, each with 6 colour cartoon panels. Each page has a different theme. It is obvious in the photos that the condition is poor. The front cover is in two pieces and has been attached using old style white tape. The tape may be old enough to remove without damage. The bottom corner of the front cover is missing. The blue cloth on the spine is worn, and has pealed back at the base. The blue rear cover has water damage along the base, and has a tear that has also been repaired with the same white tape. And, there is the expected soiling and wear, not uncommon in a children's book that is well over a hundred years old. Having said that, it is an uncommon (even rare) book in any condition. J(ohn). First edition, in the publisher's original pictorial paper-covered boards. This set is comprised of two volumes from The Teddy Bear Books series, written…by Robert D. Towne, who was the editor of the weekly satirical Judge Magazine. This series was published by permission of Judge Company. 'The Teddy Bears Come to Life' was the first in the series, with one story of the titular group of teddy bears coming to life and another story of the bears raiding the pantry. 'The Teddy Bears in Hot Water' is also split into two stories, with the first presenting the bears in hot water, and a second in which they play a trick. With colour illustrations throughout by American animator and cartoonist, J. R. Bray.Ink inscription of Joan Leech to 'Teddy Bears in Hot Water'. In the publisher's original pictorial paper-covered boards. Externally, sound, with slight rubbing. Boards are slightly soiled, with bumping to the extremities. Light chipping to the extremities, with tape reinforcing both spines and to the rear board of 'Hot Water'. Ink inscription to 'Hot Water'. Internally, binding tender, with page 3-6 disbound to 'Hot Water'. Textblock disbound to 'Come to Life'. Pages bright and clean, with the odd mark. A red mark to the half title of 'Hot Water'.
