El autor, Guilherme IVENS FERRAZ, fue vicealmirante y destacado oficial de la Armada Portuguesa .secretario del Alto Comisionado de Mozambiqu , António Enes (1895), capitán de puerto de Lourenço Marques (1895-1899) y, por designación de Mouzinho de Albuquerque , alcalde de Lourenço Marques (1897). En 1899, fue nombrado comisionado del gobierno portugués en la delimitación de las fronteras anglo-portuguesas en África Central. Más tarde, escribió una descripción de la costa de Mozambique y, como comandante de la cañonera Bengo , llevó a cabo más estudios en Moebase y Nacala .
