Maruki, best known for his "Hiroshima Panels," a collaboration with his wife Toshi, is considered a chiaroscrurist, an artist who uses strong contrast between light and dark (Chiaroscuro). The catalog is illustrated with seven beautiful color reproductions of Maruki's work, one of them two-sided, and 103 plates of b/w reproductions of his sensuous interpretations of nature. The plates 87 through 103 show excerpts of the "Hiroshima Panels," a series of fifteen painted folding panels, depicting the aftermath of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
