Trade paperback. Condition: Very Good. The Book is in Very Good+ condition. The Berger Collection comprises 65 British artworks in total gifted to the museum in 2018 by the BCET, owner of the collection since 1999. The paintings are part of the collection formed in the mid-1990s by the late William M. B. Berger and his wife Bernadette Joan Johnson Berger and now owned by the DAM. The BCET gift is the largest gift of European old masters to the DAM since the museum received the Kress Collection in the 1950s. It enriches the museum's painting and sculpture collection, currently strong in artwork from the early Italian Renaissance and 19th century France. Featured works in the Berger Collection gift include a 14th century Crucifixion, a rare survivor of the destruction of religious paintings during the reign of Henry VIII; portraits by 17th century masters Sir Anthony van Dyck and Sir Peter Lely; a Neoclassical work referencing Roman history by Royal Academy founder Angelica Kauffman; landscapes by the British School's preeminent artists, among them Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable; and superb paintings by Sir Thomas Lawrence, George Stubbs, and the Americans Benjamin West and John Singer Sargent.

Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First Printing. 549 Pages Indexed. Book has a square, tight binding and bright, white pages. Store sticker on back cover. Book has a few dog eared pages and minor wear to edges that is difficult to see in scans. There is a Contents listing for Volume 2 however the book includes only Volume 1. The rich religious beliefs and ceremonials of the Pueblo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico were first synthesized and compared by ethnologist Elsie Clews Parsons. Prodigious research and a quarter-century of fieldwork went into her 1939 encyclopedic two-volume work, Pueblo Indian Religion. The author gives an integrated picture of the complex religious and social life in the pueblos, including Zuni, Acoma, Laguna, Taos, Isleta, Sandia, Jemez, Cochiti, Santa Clara, San Felipe, Santa Domingo, San Juan, and the Hopi villages. In volume I she discusses shelter, social structure, land tenure, customs, and popular beliefs. Parsons also describes spirits, cosmic notions, and a wide range of rituals. The cohesion of spiritual and material aspects of Pueblo culture is also apparent in volume II, which presents an extensive body of solstice, installation, initiation, war, weather, curing, kachina, and planting and harvesting ceremonies, as well as games, animal dances, and offerings to the dead. A review of Pueblo ceremonies from town to town considers variations and borrowings. Today, a half century after its original publication, Pueblo Indian Religion remains central to studies of Pueblo religious life. The book you see in the images is the actual book we have for sale.
