Grand in-4 relié: 23.5 x 29 cm, 4 ff., v pp., 1 f., 250-[2] pp. Edition originale (Vicaire, V, 225) richement illustrée des compositions originales de Jules Garnier tirées dans le texte en chromolithographie et représentant différents métiers du monde du cirque comme "Les dresseurs", "Les dompteurs", "Les gymnasiarques", etc. Reliure en demi-basane fauve à coins. Dos à 5 nerfs, titre en lettres dorées, entre-nerfs ornés de fleurons dorés. Gardes et plats recouverts de papier marbré. Couvertures d'origine conservées. Petite déchirure à la première couverture. Quelques rousseurs. Dans l'ensemble intérieur très frais. Très bel exemplaire sur le monde circassien du 19è siècle. Hugues Le Roux, né en 1860 au Havre et mort en 1925 à Paris, est un journaliste français, sénateur sous la IIIè République. Jules Garnier, né à Paris en 1847, est un peintre, aquarelliste et graveur de la seconde moitié du 19è siècle. Il expose au Salon de 1860 jusqu'en 1889, année de sa mort à Paris. Il est connu pour être l'auteur de cent soixante compositions illustrant l'oeuvre de Rabelais exposées en Angleterre une année après sa mort . Elles furent alors saisies comme "attentatoires à la morale".…
