Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Original First World War manuscript pocket diary associated with a member of the Household Cavalry, accompanied by a small archive of photographs, postcards and other personal ephemera. The diary contains approximately 40 handwritten pages, including contemporary entries dated 9-28 October 1914 and an additional note at the rear covering the period 8 August-11 November 1914. The entries provide a direct personal record of wartime experiences during the opening months of the First World War, with references to horses, troop movements and military activity. The accompanying material includes original photographs showing soldiers in camp, mounted servicemen with horses and military groups. Also present are embroidered and illustrated postcards, including examples sent from France, and three hand-drawn postcards dated 1916 depicting trench life and military service in Belgium and France. Some later postal material is dated 1917. A compact and evocative First World War archive with a direct Household Cavalry and "war horse" connection, combining a contemporary personal manuscript with associated photographic and postal material. The diary is in fair condition for its age. The original card covers and pages show age-toning, handling wear, surface marks, rubbed edges, creasing and some chipping. The binding remains intact but shows wear around the spine and extremities. The photographs and postcards have general age-related wear, marks, creases and occasional edge damage. Please examine the accompanying photographs carefully for the contents and condition of the archive. The material has not been independently authenticated and is offered as photographed.
