Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a fascinating exploration of the history of Balmaghie Church in Galloway, Scotland. From its origins in the 17th century to the present day, the author weaves a rich tapestry of stories about the ministers, elders, and parishioners who have shaped the life of this rural community. The author uses a unique approach, grounding the narrative in a collection of physical objects: the communion cup, a pulpit Bible, and a series of gravestones. These objects become gateways to the past, revealing insights into the church's changing social, religious, and political landscape. Through these tangible reminders, the book explores themes of faith, persecution, social change, and the enduring power of community. The author also offers a glimpse into the day-to-day lives of Galloway ministers, capturing the intimate details of their work and providing a window into the rural Scottish society of the time.
