The volume integrates black-and-white photography of the restricted monastic grounds, hermitages, and surrounding Kentucky knobs with analytical essays by Merton scholar Monica Weis. The resulting visual exploration bridges religious biography and landscape photography, demonstrating how the physical environment profoundly shaped the subject's spiritual development and his influential writings on nature and contemplation. The physical volume is an oversize quarto, bound in blue cloth over tan boards with silver gilt lettering stamped to the spine. Publisher designs include a photographic dust jacket, illustrated Kentucky map endpapers detailing the monastic grounds, and black-and-white photographs printed via offset lithography on acid-free paper in South Korea. The volume features the verified signature of fine art photographer Harry L. Hinkle upon the half-title page. Produced by the scholarly publisher for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the work draws upon access granted to the photographer to document areas of the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani typically closed to the public. The text is supplemented by an introduction from Jonathan Montaldo and a foreword by Brother Patrick Hart, OCSO, anchoring the photographic record within theological scholarship and firsthand monastic experience. Harry L. Hinkle (illustrator).…
