In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over marbled cloth boards. Complete with the original card slipcase. The newly designed four-volume Nonesuch edition of Shakespeare, published in 1953 and dedicated, by permission, to Queen Elizabeth II in the year of her coronation. It reproduces the Nonesuch text established by Herbert Farjeon in 1929, with a new introduction by Ivor Brown. Complete in four volumes, comprising: Vol. I, Comedies; Vol. II, Histories, and Troylus and Cressida; Vol. III, Tragedies, and Pericles; Two Noble Kinsmen; Edward III; Sir Thomas Moore; and Vol. IV, Poems. Printed and bound by William Clowes and Sons at Beccles on India paper made by Robert Fletcher and Son, with Japon vellum supplied by C. Townsend Hook and Company. The open lettering of the title pages, half-title headpieces and dedication were taken from wood engravings by Reynolds Stone, while the version of the First Folio portrait was by Leonard Beaumont. The edition was designed by Francis Meynell. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over marbled cloth boards. Externally, lovely. Very minor shelf wear to extremities. One or two very minor marks to spines. Slipcase, worn. Rubbing and scuffing, splitting to the joints and edges, and slight loss, particularly around the extremities. Splitting to rear resulting in slight lifting to panel. Bumping to lower corner of rear panel. Slight fading to perimeters with the odd light mark. A little fragile, but intact.
