Bekker utilise en outre seize autres manuscrits, auxquels il affecte les majuscules quil vient de rendre disponibles. -- 3° Dans sa seconde édition, parue en 1832, Bekker, au lieu de vingt-six manuscrits, nutilise plus que ceux qui, dans son édition précédente, avaient pour sigles les sept premières majuscules de lalphabet : ABCDEFG. -- 4° Dans son édition de 1873, Stahl utilise les mêmes manuscrits que Bekker en 1832, plus M, manuscrit ancien qui, en 1832, était perdu, moins D, « an indirect copy of F » (J. E. Powell, The Cretan Manuscripts of Thucydides, Cl. Q., 1938, p. 106). -- 5° Dans son édition du Livre VI, parue en 1897, Marchant utilise les piêmes manuscrits que Stahl (ABCEFGM), plus H à partir de 6, 92, 5. Dans son editio maxima (1898-1901), Hude utilise exactement les mêmes manuscrits que Marchant. -- Cest de cette façon toute pragmatique qua été constitué le canon des « codices meliores ».
