Hardback. Joshua Castellino (Professor of Law and Head of Law Department at Middlesex University), Oxford University Press. Countries in the Pacific face unique challenges of survival and progress in establishing themselves and participating fully in international society. Their geographic isolation from the rest of global society is compounded by complex layers of often competing national and indigenous identities among their populations built through wave upon wave of migration. This has created rich diversity, competing regimes and real challenges in terms of state-building, ethnicidentity, social policy cohesion and development in post-colonial settings. The issues studied here would be of interest to scholars from a range of different disciplines such as Law, Politics, Sociologyand Anthropology. By examining the theory and practice of minority rights law in states such as Fiji and Papua New Guinea, alongside their more familiar neighbours Australia and New Zealand, this book makes a unique contribution in a region often ignored in the literature. Hardback.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In very good condition, on lightly-aged paper. The letter begins: 'My dear Sir, | Having a day to spare, and having a little business in London, I left home by midnight mail yesterday, but unfortunately got into the smash that took place on the North Western line [i.e. a railway accident at Leighton Buzzard, 5 September 1848], which detained us four hours[.] My principal business was to see you about the Daily News; I have written to Sir Joshua to say no more time can be given to the liberal party, we must either, stop at once, sell at once, or bring in new captial at once'. He expresses the hope that Smith will 'not lose any time in bringing this matter to a satisfactory settlement', and protests 'against a farthing being spent, or a liability being incurred, beyond our present subscribed captial'. He is sending Smith 'a copy of a letter I have written to Sir Joshua Walmsley [sic] on the subject'.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Power was never the gift-it was the trap. When five mysterious meteors crash to Earth in a synchronized global event, humanity is forever changed. In the craters left behind, survivors begin to awaken-not just with altered DNA, but with abilities that defy science. Superhuman strength. Telepathy. Technopathy. Shapeshifting. But these powers come with a cost. Each empowered individual is bound by a strange, alien tether-an invasive neural link that whispers commands and overrides free will. Governments scramble to respond. Shadow organizations move to weaponize the phenomenon. And amid the chaos, a small group of "awakened" individuals begins to uncover the truth: this was no accident. At the center of it all is Claire, a former captive who escapes with strange new abilities and a mind unlike anyone else's. As she reconnects with others affected by the Event-including the shapeshifting Luther, the tech-wired strategist Buffy, the clairvoyant Jack, and the gentle-hearted Scotty-they form a fragile alliance to uncover the purpose behind the tethers and the alien force known only as N.E.X.U.S.N.E.X.U.S. isn't just a virus or a machine. It's something more terrifying-a hive-minded intelligence buried inside the tethers, learning, adapting, and expanding with every mind it controls.
