Published by Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans in 1851, during the height of the British Empire. An intriguing source for political historians.In the publisher's original cloth. Contains publisher's original advertisements of general literature on the last two leaves.Having already compiled The Dictionary of Dates and Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary, Haydn wished to compile a modernised version of Beatson's Political Index published in 1806. Haydn lists thousands of figures who held political, ecclesastical, civil, military and municipal positions across the British Empire. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally, very smart with minimal marks to boards. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and slightly to the extremities. Very marginal wear to front joint. Slight rubbing to glint spine label. Offsetting to the end papers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front paste down.
