Most are based on songs, and include all the lyrics; some American Folk, Stephen Foster, songs from other cultures; also music, drawings and…very complete instructions for dances. A few are instrumental only, e.g. Virginia Reel, which recommends a most peculiar combination of tunes for the dance: Larry O'Gaff jig + Miss McLeod's Reel + Battle Hymn of the Republic(?!) .
