This is an excellent opportunity to purchase this fine antique portrait of an eminent personage, mounted (matted) and ready to frame, engraved from an original drawing in the collection of R Bull, Esq., printed in 1800. Sir John Packington (1549-1625) was a courtier in the reigns of Elizabeth I…and James I. He was knighted in November 1587, and married the following year (Dorothy, nee Smith, widow of Benedict Barnham). He died in 1625 and was buried at Aylesbury. Their marriage was not a happy one. In 1600 they had their only child, another John. He was created a Baronet in 1620, and in the same year married Francis Ferres, with whom he had one son, another Sir John Packington (1621-1680).
