Blue Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Light wear to jacket edges, small vertical tear from rear top edge. This is a moving story of the dangers faced by sailors in convoys during the war, telling of the suffering of the Norwegian seamen. Compiled by the author from the true accounts of sur…vivors, it covers three voyages made by a representative crew in 'Anna', a typical ship. In the Second World War, one of England's earliest and staunchest allies was the Norwegian Merchant Navy. Thousands of her seamen sailed in convoys for and with the British, risking their lives to bring much-needed ammunition and supplies to our ports. And in wartime no one is more exposed to danger than the seaman in a munitions ship. He is under constant attack from U-boats and enemy planes, and is threatened every minute by mines. What is most terrible of all, however, for a ship carrying thousands of tons of petrol, nitroglycerine and bombs, is the risk of collision with other ships in the convoy, to which he must sail so close. Just how dangerous these voyages are for the convoys is borne out by the appalling number of men lost in them during the war. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Front & back covers slightly soiled.; With plates. Light wear & browning to text block edges. Dustjacket: slight wear to spine, covers & corners. It focuses on the true story of the Morset family from the village of Selbu. Peder Morset, a schoolteacher and head of the local teachersâ union, became involved in the civilian resistance against the Nazi occupation. Alongside his seven sons, he helped smuggle refugees across the border into Sweden and participated in various acts of resistance. However, their efforts were betrayed when their group was infiltrated by agents from Henry Rinnanâs notorious collaborationist network. In 1943, the Gestapo arrested the family, and Peder Morset was later executed at Kristiansten Fortress in Trondheim. The book is widely praised for its emotional depth and its portrayal of courage, unity, and sacrifice in the face of oppression. It is considered one of the most significant and moving Norwegian books about the occupation period. Per Hansson was a pioneer of documentary-style writing in Norway in the 1960s, and his work played a key role in highlighting the human stories behind the wartime resistance.
