Sie befreite sich aus ihrer dienen…den Funktion gegenüber anderen Gattungen und entwickelte sich äußerst vielseitig zu einem eigenständigen Ausdrucksmittel. Ihr Facettenreichtum frappiert, und dennoch ist es eher eine Ausnahme, dass sich ein Künstler fast ausschließlich der Zeichnung widmet, wie der 1949 in Bitterfeld geborene, heute in Berlin lebende Hanns Schimansky. Seine besondere künstlerische Qualität liegt sowohl im hochsensiblen Umgang mit seinen Materialien und den Eigenheiten der jeweiligen Techniken, als auch in der Suggestion von psychischen Befindlichkeiten und ganz freien poetischen Kontexten. Anklänge an Natürliches, Paraphrasen des Urbanen, psychomotorische Automatismen, serielle Reihungen, die Arbeit mit dem Zufallsprinzip - all dies vereint Hanns Schimanskys Werk.
